The definition of model minority is a group that despite past prejudice and discrimination succeeds without resorting to political or violent confrontations with Whites. According to the text, "Asian Americans are a success! They achieve! They succeed! They have no protests, no demands. They just do it!" In 2010, half of Asian Americans 25 years or older held bachelor's degrees, compared with 28 percent of the White population. In essence, Asian Americans see a goal and set out to achieve that goal. No if's and's or but's get in their way. Education and success go hand in hand. Succeeding economically, socially and educationally are the core principles in Asian Americans pathway to a bright future. Given the determination of the Asian American people I do believe based upon their success in assimilation, that assimilation would protect them from a loss of their civil rights. Overcoming discrimination and prejudice has been something this ethnic group has done in the past. For example, the Japanese Interment Camps stripped them of their businesses, homes and liberties. The Asian Americans did not go to these camps voluntarily, they committed no crime and could not leave with out official approval. Overwhelmingly, the injustice and stigmatizing that Asian American people had to endure during WWII, helped instill in them a never ending competitive drive for education, leadership and ethnic awareness.
