Question

select ONE of these aspects of the classification and representation of health information (i.e., ad hoc representation, standard representation, informal standard, or formal standard)

1. identify which aspect of the classification and representation of health information (ad hoc representation, standard representation, informal standard, or formal standard) you selected to research.

2. Describe two specific examples of this aspect of the classification and representation of health information that you were able to identify on your research. In what health care context(s) or setting(s) is it used? Why is it appropriate for use in these particular context(s) or setting(s)? Explain your reasoning.

3. Would any of the other aspects of the classification and representation of health information also be appropriate for use within these health care context(s) or setting(s)? If so, why? If not, why not? Explain your reasoning.

Explanation / Answer

Ad hoc classification has been selected of the given aspects of the classification and representation of health information.

1. When a user needs to sort large number of documents into non-standard categories, ad hoc classification is used. It is easy and efficient for nontechnical domain expert. This researches focus on text based information systems and helps to transfer new information technologies to industry.

2. Two examples of this classification are as follows:

i.) Asthma because in Asthma, thousands of encounter notes need to be categorised into either Asthma exacerbations or no exacerbations.

ii) this classification is part of defence advanced research projects agency contract on text analysis and access techniques. The goal of the project is to develop HTC, a prototype classifier which can help in the automated understanding and manipulation of radiology reports through analysis of the language in those reports.

3. No other classification is appropriate for use within these health care context. Because standard representation indicates a symmetric representation of data. Whereas informal and formal standards are almost same , only difference is development and approval is undertaken by the members of SDO, either as individuals or representatives of their organisation. So none of these matches with ad hoc classification.
