Summary
The article points out that under the Affordable Care Act, hundreds of health care consumers are receiving welcome letters from health insurance providers for health care coverage in 2018.This is because a number of health insurance providers will exit the market place and the existing consumers will be reassigned to different health insurance providers by the Federal government if they have not chosen one.
This process, known as automatic reenrollment, will keep consumers from losing coverage as on Jan 1, 2018. Consumers will lose coverage if their current health insurance provider leaves the market place and if no alternative provider has been chosen in the 45-day open enrollment period that ends on Friday, Dec 15. If consumers do not enroll by then, they are in danger of losing health insurance coverage in 2018.
The health insurance premium of the new providers is three times the existing premium for some consumers. It is also not possible that the consumer will get a different physician under the new plan.
Opinion
My opinion is that consumers should be given the choice to choose their health insurance providers. More time should be given for making the selection.
