Question
Think about a time you had to prepare a meal, build a gadget or plan an event that you have never done before. How did you determine what plan or method you would use to accomplish your goal? What were the steps you came up with to accomplish your goal (experimental design)? While developing your plan, what did you expect the outcome to be (your hypothesis)? Use this brainstorming technique to help you respond to the discussion question. What are 3 things (variables) that affected the end result, whether good or bad? Check out this video to help you use the Scientific Method obeervation to respond to this week's postExplanation / Answer
As per the given scenario, a person is going to do something that is new. It can be building a new gadget, or preparing a new meal or doing something else that is absolutely new to the person. In this case, the person will identify what he or she has to do and start doing a research to acquire new knowledge. The new knowledge will be mixed with the existing knowledge or past experience. Besides, each step will involve an investigation process also. All these activities are the part of the scientific method of doing things. Hence, the person will use scientific method to build, plan or prepare new product or services.
The steps required to achieve the goals are as follows:
1. Identification of the problem statement or what is to be done
2. Setting up key objectives of the product or service development
3. Identification of the research design that can be experimental design
4. Data collection as a part of the research
5. Application of research tools
6. Analysis and interpretation of the data analysis
7. Prototype development of product
8. Design testing or experiment
9. Finding the best way to making the process to achieve the method of developing a gadget or preparing a meal
The null hypothesis will be as follows:
The product (gadget or meal) developed will be commercially viable.
The Alternative hypothesis will be as follows:
The product (gadget or meal) developed will not be commercially viable.
The three variables that can affect the end results are:
1. Product and process design
2. Time
3. Skills available to build the new product
All these three variables are directly related to the development of a new gadget or meal. A superior product and process design, availability of time and higher skills, will give a superior end product.
