Need helping understanding the question Explain the important factors that cause silicate rocks to melt and to solidify in the earth. entity the three (3) main tectonic settings where large amounts of melt is produced, the specific process that is the primary trigger for melting at each setting, and a geographic name of a actual example of each setting. Factors for melting and solidification Tectonic setting 1: Process: Geographic example: Tectonic setting 2: Process: Geographic example: Tectonic setting 3: Process: Geographic example:Explanation / Answer
Rock melting usually takes place in the deeper layers of the earth. The factors that are causing for the rocks to melt are Heat and the Pressure and Time
Under deeper layers near to the core the heat is high and it can melt almost every substance in or near to it
Due to the increasing pressure on the rocks they melt. This is because the overlying layers apply more pressure due to settling
The longer the rocks lie inside the above factors, the faster they melt. So, time is also an important factor.
The presence of water in anyform will help the hot rock to condense.
The three tectonic settings are as follows
Tectonic setting 1 isThe divergent boundary
Process: In this the two contineltal plates are moving away and this results in the shifting of the particles on to the surface. Thsi will create lot of heat and finally decreases the pressure on them. Thus the rock starts melting
The East african rift is an example for this
Tectonic setting 2
Convergent boundaries
Process: This is pure opposite to the first process where the plates move close and this can increase the pressure as the rock is going down towards the core.
The subduction of the Pacific plate
Tectonic setting 3
Mantle plume
Process: The hot molten magma needs an escape route and it comes out through the hot spots and on the way to the top the magma melts the rocks on its way.
