Simply writing an answer into the answer box is not acceptable. that you can save money on buying gasoline for your car if 87 octane gas to the more powerful 91 octane gas. You decide to based on this information: You drive 24,000 miles per year. 87 (A) Your friend tells you switch from you do a cost estimate octane ga costs $2.99 per gallon and your car gets 29 miles per gallon when you use this fuel. 91 octane bas costs $3.29 per gallon, and your car gets 34 miles per gallon when you use this fuel. Is your friend right? How much money would you save (or lose) per year if you use 91 octane gasoline? Answer Box:Explanation / Answer
Total miles travelled per year is 24000.
87 octane gas gives a mileage of 29 miles per gallon.
So for travelling 24000 miles, number of gallons of gas required is (24000/29) = 827.6 gallons.
Total cost for it is 827.6 * 2.99 = $ 2474.5.
Again,
91 octane gas gives a mileage of 34 miles per gallon.
So for travelling 24000 miles, number of gallons of gas required is (24000/34) = 705.9 gallons.
Total cost for it is 705.9 * 3.29 = $ 2322.4
Thus, my friend is correct and using 91 Octane gas is actually profitable for me as it incurs a lower cost for travelling purpose.
Saving per year by using 91 Octane gas = 2474.5 - 2322.4 = $ 152.1.
