Hello can someone help me (a) please? The question is : what are you DiD estimates of the smoking ban effect on each of these 5 outcomes? Since 1988, Norway has had a smoking ban at the work places. However, there was one exemp- industry consisting of bars, pubs, cafes and restaurants. On tion from this ban: the hospitality June 1st 2004, Norway extended this ban on smoking to the hospitality industry. The main objective of the smoking ban was to protect the employees against passive smoking. Bharadwaj. Johnsen and Loken (2014) quantify the effect of the smoking ban on birth outcomes of children of female workers. They use a DiD strategy, using employes in stores as a control group. (a) They consider a range of birth outcomes for children: birth weight (in grams), indicators variables for being less than 1000 g (extremely low birth weight) at birth, less than 1500 (very low birth weight), less than 2000 and less than 2500 g (low birth weight) at birth. Table Al below gives descriptive statistics of these outcomes. The first and second column ive the mean and standard deviation of the corrsponding outcome for the treatment group before the reform. The third column shows the mean difference between treatment and control groups before the reform and the fourth column after the reform What are your DiD estimates of the smoking ban effect on each of these 5 outcomes? Explanation / Answer

The DiD or the Difference in Difference estimates show the difference between the average/mean of the outcome variable for the treatment group and the average/mean of the outcome variable for the control group over a certain period of time.In this example, column 3 shows the average/mean difference of the outcome variable between treatment and control group beofre and after the reform.Hence,DiD estimators of the 5 outcomes can be calculated as:-

Birthweight:{(-10.4)-(-63.3)}}=(-10.4+63.3)=52.9

P(<1000)=(.001-.004)=-.003

P(<1500)=(-.006-.012)=-.018

P(<2000)=(-0.11-0.13)=-0.24

P(<2500)=(.003-.001)=.002
