Need help on checking the answers I have answered and the two that are circled I'm stuck on trying to figure out.

Naans Section EXERCISE 23 PROBLEMS-PART III-INTERNET ba ubis evercise, you will use a meteogram to study the weather changes brought by the passing of a waiade cyclone. This exercise will work best about 12 hours after a midlatitude cyclone or vaR passes through your area. If no storms are currently in your area, your instructor may have you ohoose another city that has experienced a passing storm within the last day Go to the Hess Physical Geography Laboratory Manwal, 1tth edition, Web site at www mygeoscienceplace.com, then select Exercise 23. Then select "Go to University of wye- mns Information for United States Cities" for the Department of Atmospheric Science Web paga http://weather.uwyo.edu/cities (Your instructor may recommend a different bavernet site that provides meteograms.) Selot your region of the United States to see a map showing cities in the area. Urder vObservations" select ..Meteogram." Click on the closest city to your location for the cument meteogram in that city. · · After viewing the meteogram, answer the questions below. Your instructor may ask that you at- tach a copy of the meteogram to your answers. Which city did you study? What was the date and time of the meteogram studied? (Be sure to also indicate the local day and time of the meteogram.) 2. a) Describe the changes in pressure over the 25-hour period. (b) What might explain these pressure changes? Describe the changes in temperature over the 25-hour period What might explain these temperature changes? serca (a) (b) 4. Describe the changes in wind direction over the 25-hour period. (b)What might explain these wind direction changes? s a 6 Did any precipitation take place during the 25-hour period? If so, how much and when 7. (a) Based on the information in the meteogram, what time did front(s) and/or storm pass through your city? (b) How can you tell?

Explanation / Answer

5. a) as you said that temperature is increasing in 25 hour time period. and u can detect the direction of temperature by throw a paper in the air, paper or polythene will fall in the opposite direction from the air comes. air direction can be change oin the 25 hour time period , we can understant it by the answer of the second part of this question which is

b) as we know that cold air is more heavier than the warm air, when temperature increased in a region then surface air getting warm and uplifted, because of this uplifting process space of that uplifted air has been empty then this area become a low pressure zone. then cold air comes from the high pressure zone to fill this gap of uplifted air. if this area is a high pressure zone in comparing of other region which is low pressure zone then wind will move to that place.

7. a) metogram represents the plots of temperature , wind speed, precipitation cloud cover and wind direction collectively. if meteogram reading shows the wind speed is high and low pressure zone then we can expect the storm , timing of the storm depend on the distance between low pressure zone and high pressure zone and the speed of wind.

b) its just about calculation, if we know the distance and speed of wind. ex

wind speed = 20 mile/hour

and the distance between low pressure zone and high pressure zone = 720 mile

then time of the storm is = 720/ 90 =8 hour

so after the 8 hours storm will pass through the city according to these readings in example
