Question

In this exercise, you will analyze building height variation in a city where buildings of different ages coexist. As in the example in chapter 3, suppose that the city grows outward by one block each year. Block 0 is built inyear 0, block 1 is built in year 1, block 2 is built in year 2, and so on. Suppose also that butldings are torn down and replaced after standing for 4 years. Buildings built in year 0 are replaced in year 4, buildings built in year 1 are replaced in year 5, and so on Derive the city's building-age pattern in year 7, when it has a radius of 7 blocks (0-7). Once the age pattern is derived, write down the year in which buildings in each block were built Fill in the following table Block Age 0 3 4 4 6

Explanation / Answer

Block              Age                       T       Year built

0                     3                           4            0

1                     4                           5            1

2                     5                           6            2

3                     6                           7            3

4                     7                           8            4

5                     8                           9            5

6                     9                           10          6

7                     10                         11          7

Pattern:- Age for Block 0 is derived by taking starting year as 0 and 4th year is 3 as 0 year ( 1 year)

1 year(2nd year), 2 year(3rd year) 3 year( 4th year) . Hence, age= 3. This is the pattern. Torn down in year 4( after standing for 4 years i.e completing 4 years.)

Hope you understood the pattern.
