Question
There a number of categories that require mitigation measures, these include: 1) Air Quality 2) Geology and Soils 3) Hydrology and Water Quality For each category, identify an impact that requires mitigation, and describe the proposed mitigation. Do you believe it is adequate? Can you think of other measures that could also be implemented. 1. Air quality: Air pollution degrades air quality and thus impacts our environment in different manners. It results in emission of toxic air as well as CO. It is contributing in the depletion of ozone layer. Toxic particulate matters are taken in by plant which is degrading soil quality and affecting plant growth. Human beings are not getting proper amount of fresh air which they should get.
Mitigation measures: Contruction activities to be planned during low winds, Use dust abatment procedures, Reduce greenhouse gas emissions as much as possible.
2. Geology and Soils: On construction sites, Filling and cutting of ground area will cause a direct permanent impact on the topography within the Site due to the alteration of existing topographic levels. Extraction of raw materials also harm the topography.
Mitigation measures: Develop erosion control measures, Use already developed modes like roads and stop disturbing the land left, Construct drainage system only if necessary, Temporarily stablize the disturbed areas.
3. Hydrology and Water quality: Due to urbanization, More land erosion is there which results into more sediment to be washed into streams. This can lead to flooding. More development means less water will soak into the ground and hence underground water table will be having less water to recharge it.
Mitigation measures: Fill up slopes, Use already developed modes like roads and stop disturbing the land left, Develop runoff control measures.
Its not adequate obviously. We should first stop more and more urbanization happening. More employment should be provided in smaller cities which will stop the migration of people from smaller to bigger cities and hence will stop urbanization or atleast will reduce it. Plant more and more trees everyday to get fresh air. Public transport should be used as much as we can.
