After lead paint was found in toys from China, Toys R Us began testing the toys it sells itself. Should we abandon state and federal regulation and rely on companies to keep our children safe? Why or why not?

In the present day, many businesses have made a concerted effort to be more socially conscious., to be more responsible and to be as much about the people and environment as their own profits. Yet leaving it all up to business would not be a wise decision. After all the main aim of business is to make money. Though there are many businesses that are ethical there are as many if not more businesses who would not mind cutting a few corners, if it would mean lower operating costs and greater margins.

Totally relying on companies to keep our children safe is not the right step. Both the government as well as companies should ensure children's safety. At the government level, there should be proper laws regarding safe toy manufacturing and proper punishment should be levied in case of non adherence. And at the same time, companies should make proper rules and regulations to ensure that safe toys are manufactured.
