Like any other society in the world, American society is also witnessing changes. Three of such changes are:

1. American society is still witnessing the decline of large families and households. Families are becoming fragmanted and smaller in size and becoming nuclear. The concept of joint family is fast vanishing.

2. The traditional structure of the society where the husband is the breadwinner and wife is the homemeaker is no longer relevant. Now, wives and women contribute to the earnings of the house.

3. The American society has seen the incidence of crime and violence come down as compared to the past.

These changes are being reflected in schools. Schools now have ethnic and racial diversity in terms of student's profile. As the economy is becoming a service oriented economy, a premium is being placed on education. This has resulted in an increase in the number of children enetring schoold from minority background. Moreover the industrialization era saw schools following a standardization model. As the American economy is moving towards the post industrialization stage with more focus on services, schools are adopting model of individualization and choice. There is active collaboration between students and teachers regarding the study content, regulations etc. The structure of the schools are getting decentralized with the participants themselves dictating the goals and objectives of the learning system.
