Question
Why do asteroid surfaces tend to be smooth?
They are covered with a lot of dust and small particles left over from many impacts.
They have been bombarded by a large number of micrometeorites which tend to smooth rough surfaces.
Each large impact shakes the whole asteroid, causing any loose debris to flow over the surface.
All of the above
a.They are covered with a lot of dust and small particles left over from many impacts.
b.They have been bombarded by a large number of micrometeorites which tend to smooth rough surfaces.
c.Each large impact shakes the whole asteroid, causing any loose debris to flow over the surface.
d.All of the above
Explanation / Answer
D.
An asteroid is made up of many lwftover materials packed togetehr by collision. The gravitational forces acting on the surface of the asteroid will pull and hold the collided particles and makes the body smooth. Moreover the excess particles are lost by the impact shake.
So when the asteroid gets biger then the gravity increases and this will increase the smoothnes.
