A poll finds that 20% of voters want to increase tax by 5%, 20% want to increase tax by 10%, 20% want to increase tax by 15%, and 40% does not want to increase tax at all. If each issue was put up on the ballot and the election was decided based on the plurality rule, which issue would've won? Explain. Answer: By plurality vote, 40% would have won who do not want any increase in tax at all because in elections, a majority happens when more than half of the electorate votes for one candidate. For example, if a candidate gets 50.1% of the vote, she gets a majority. A plurality happens when less than half vote for a candidate that wins because the vote is split among more than two candidates.

Answerc. If majority rule is followed then taxes will be increased but by what percentage, it cannot be determined becuase no single group has clear majority.

Answerd. Many issues are there in which two political parties cannot disagree. For example, if we talk of bringing gender equality, eliminating racial discrimination, or generating employment or environmental issues etc. the two parties have to agree but the way these goals will be attained, they may disagree. For example, one party says that we must force people to travel by public transport by putting a challan on private vehicles during office hours may not be agreeable by other party as it is against their right ot choose and freedom. Hence different political parties may agree to goals to be attained but often diagree on the methods by which these are to be attained.

Answere. The government’s “fixation” on the size of the state is straining vital public services and undermining social stability which argues that further cuts could damage the economy.

The country needs investment in transport, broadband networks and energy infrastructure which cannot be compromised.

By introducing incentives such as reduced national insurance contributions for employers and tax relief for local investment in construction colleges, academies and school programmes. Local government should co-invest with industry in construction-focused technical colleges and school career programmes to encourage diversity.
