Can you solve all these questions ?GEOL 270-Analytical Techniques To-Knows L. The syllabus states: "Rapid and accurate analysis of solids, liquids and gases has become routine in the past decade or so, such that knowledge and familiarity with the techniques is now requisite in the study and interpretation of earth materials. ranging from the prosaic to the extremely complicated.....The central point of this class is the need to know HOW data are collected and presented - and how the method and equipment bias the results" Write a definition for what YOU think "Research" comprises. What is the role of analytical Techniques in scientific research? Discuss how your approach to scientific research may have been modified by the various aspects examined in this course. Be honest and be specific In this course you will learn about a wide variety of analytical techniques IL. The syllabus states: "Certain fundamental principles, such as analytical precision and accuracy, sample contamination and proper calibration of each technique and equipment involved, will be consistent throughout the course. Discuss how: 1) analytical precision, accuracy, and calibration of an instrument; AND 2) contamination during every step of a collection, prep, and analysis procedure-can influence the results of analysis. III. The syllabus states: "As you learn how to use a piece of analytical equipment or perform some technique, keep close track of all steps involved. Figure out how to tweak it this way or that and maximize the precision and accuracy o the technique involved. You will write a thorough SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) for some piece of equipment, including all steps (carefully articulated), hints and suggestions." Discuss the importance of writing a Standard Operating Procedure and why you need to include so many details. Be sure to give specific examples to illustrate your answer. There are some simple, rather obvious, answers. Go beyond the simple and obvious. Think
Explanation / Answer
1. Research is the systematic investigation into and study of materials and sources in order to establish facts and reach new conclusions. In analytical technique we find out the concentration of a chemical compound or chemical element some of the examples are gravimetric analysis, titrations etc. Some time the approach to scientific research depends upon various aspects like the precision needed, the least count of the equipment, availability of time and exact equipment etc.
II. If the equipments or apparatus are not calibrated properly then this will lead to low accuracy as the error will infuse in the readings and this will gets magnified with each steps apart from this if contamination of apparatus or sample does take place then this also leads to poor results as slight variotion in the purity will give highly variated readings.
III. Standard operating procedure are needed especially when working with high precision equipment needed for research work as slight modification in the procedure will give high variation in results and thus the objectivity of the research will become null and void.
