As you may know, the causes of global warming and climate change are debated in scientific circles. Some say greenhouse gases are to blame; others say the earth regularly experiences cycles of warming and cooling. Some point to our recent record cold temperatures and snowfall, and ask how can we blame global warming?  Still other scientists are predicting that our present global warming trend will result in a new Ice Age. Recently, Donald Trump removed the climate planning from EPA office. How do you think this will impact biodiversity and conservation in the next four years? Give at least three specific examples.

The debates encircling the global warming and its effects has continued from the last decades. Things got heated up, with present Trump administration denying the global warming concerns and US government has lazed its stringent measures in accordance to the climatic control policy. Without deeply engorging in to the specifics, certain inferences can be safely derived based on solid scientific evidences. The earth average global temperature has increased for 0.8 degree Celsius from 1880 according to the observations by NASA. In the context of expulsion of climate planning from EPA office, the biggest question is how does it affect the bio diversity the conservations effort, for the nation and in the global context?

1) Increase in emissions of greenhouse gases.: With no governmental doctrine and stringent rule to follow, one can expect higher emission rates both in industrial and transportation sector. The biggest losers will be the polar ice caps. Always projected as the biggest victim of global warming, the polar regions hold a highly sensitive ecosystem and balance, which can be quite easily disturbed. Unlike other fragile bio diversity zones, creating a national park or reserve doesn’t protect this niche environment since biggest threat is the melting of polar ice. Only remedial measures to preserve the polar bears, whales and other artic inhabitants is to reduce the greenhouse gases emission and formulating serious climatic policies to conserve this ecosystem. The increase in carbon dioxide in atmosphere has also increased its absorption in the sea water. Adding together the increasing temperature produces a highly reactive solution that can decompose the coral reef structures resulting in their destruction. Coral reefs are beautiful massive structures produced over ages by colonies of polyps and are natural habitats for a variety of ocean life forms. Destruction to this ecosystem ruins the breeding zones of schools of fishes.

2)Deforestation: President Trump has always suggested economic growth to the environmental concerns and this could mean more industrialization efforts. This invariably pushes for deforestation in order to supplement the timber and wood products. The extent of the adverse effects on wildlife population needs to be seen.

3)Relaxation in industry & mining policies: this is purely speculative, but highly probable that trump administration may introduce some relaxation to the industrial and mining environmental policies in order to accelerate the economic growth. That would be certainly be a quite disastrous and directly threaten the fluvial, lacustrine and marine ecosystems.

All this directly depends on the policies drafted by the present administration, but unfortunately the actions taken till now, doesn’t provide much hope to environmentalists. Presently we are facing a situation where environmental conditions are deteriorating at a critical rate, the nation needs proactively address this concerns as a global leader and indifference could pay a higher cost
