Question

GE Student Learning Outcomes Integration - Physical Universe and its Life Forms (Area IB) Upon completing a course in Area IB (Integration Physical Universe and its Life Forms), a student will be able to: 1. Describe the inextricable connections among the physical universe, the life forms which inhabit it, and the mathematical models used to describe it. 2. From the perspective of a particular scientific discipline, explain the ways in which science shapes our lives. 3. From the perspective of a particular scientific discipline, assess scientific issues including the value systems and ethics associated with them.

Explanation / Answer

1. There is a inextricable connections among the physical universe and the life forms which inhabit it as we have various natural cycles which connect the biogenic components to non biogenic components, air flows because of the convection current govern by the thermodynamics, water flow from high pressure area where it have high potential energy to low pressure areas where energy of water is very low touching lives of various organisms and hence it deposit its sediment out there in delta and oceans this way we can never seperate physical universe and the life forms.

There are various mathematical models which we see during our interaction with physical universe like: water budget, oxygen cycle, notrogen cycle, phosphorus cycle and other.

2. Science shapes our live by the selection of vechicle, source of our electricity, Reverse osmosis of the water, vaccum cleaning of our houses, television, and infinite other appliances where shapes our lives.

3. More so than knowledge and technology, it is individual, professional and societal value systems that essentially determine numerous aspects of the process and product of science and thus the promotion of science demands reporting authentic results rather than withholding relevant information.
