An example is Amazon's "1-click" checkout patent, which is set to expire in 2017. Barnes and Noble implemented their own practice of clicking once to check out in "The Express Lane." Amazon successfully defended its 1-click practice and a court ordered Barnes and Noble to stop offering Express Lane. In 2012, Apple successfully defended its patent against Samsung for the design of the iPad's curved corners.
