Phase I: It was from 2005-2007. In this phase 6 competencies were developed based on knowledge and literature review, which are: patient centered care, teamwork and collaboration, evidence based practice, quality improvement and informatics and safety. Out of these, five were developed from Institute of Medicine.
Phase II: It was from 2007-2009. In this phase pilot schools shared their work on QSEN website by consolidating the competencies in their nursing program. The website was launched in 2007.
Phase III: It was from 2009-2012. In this phase faculty expertise requirement was developed for all nursing schools for teaching competencies. Worked for developing and evaluation of methods and standards used for teaching competencies. Textbooks, licensing, accreditations and certification standards were developed. AACN hosted eight faculty development workshops for undergraduate level faculties. New project were developed for faculties for graduate, masters and doctoral level nursing programs for teaching QSEN competencies.
