Explanation / Answer

COLORECTAL CANCER:- Colo=colon;Rectal= Rectum; Cancer=abnormal malignant growth.

It is defned as the cells lining the colon and rectum become abnormal and out out control in growth is called colorectal cancer.When the cancer affected to the colon is called colon cancer where as to rectum is called rectal cancer .Both together called as the colorectal and also known as large bowel.

The colorectal cancer may be malignant or begnin-begnin means the tumor will not speread to other parts,where as malgnant spreads to the other parts and cause damage.Colon functon is to reabsorb the water and nutrients from the undigested food products.Rectum is the end part of the colon where it stores the faeces the waste products before being expelled from the body out.

Causes:- -being elder, intake of high saturated fats,animal protien,low fibre diet, alcohol cosumption,women who have breast ,ovary and uterus cancer,family history of colorectal cancer,prolonged ulcerative colitis obese,smoking.

Symptoms:- -going to toilet more often,diarrhea,constipaton, afeeling of un completed emptying of bowel after bowel movement, blood in feces,pain and bloating of the abdomen,fullness of stomach, vomiting,fatigue,weight loss.

Diagnosis:- faecal occult blood test-presence of blood in feces t doesnot gve 100% accuracy to confirm it as colorectal cancer it may be due to haemorrhoids; stool DNA test-to evaluate precancerous polyps shed into the stool;sigmoidscopy-to visualise the colon ;Barium meal x-ray;colonoscopy;CT Colonography;USG;MRI.

STAGES OF COLON CANCER;-

stage-0:- it is present with in the mucosa known as carcinoma in situ

stage1:-It growrs through the inner layer of the colon and rectum .but not yet spread beyond the wall of the colon and rectum

stage 2:-It grows through or in to the wall of the colorectal.ut not yet reached nearby the lymph nodes.

stage 3:-Invaded into the the lymph nodes but not yet spread to other parts of the body.

stage 4:-spreads to other body parts such as ovary, lungs,liver.  

Treatment:- Includes chemotherapy,radiotherapy and surgery

in surgery they will recmove the affected malignant tumors and lymph nodes that are near by .In some cases rectum is completely removed and placed colon bag for drainage.

Chemotherapy is used to kill the cancerous cells and radiotherapy is also used high energy radiation beams to destroy the cancerous cells and to prevent multiplyng of the cells.

Riisk from colorectal cancer can be reduced by using low dose of asprin for long terms.

how can asprin helpful to reduce the cancer? In a recent study ublished in a journal cell suggests that using of asprin could be effective in boosting up the immunity in patients with breast,skin and bowel cancer.

prevention of colorectal cancer:- Regular screenings,intake of good nutrition,exercse,decreasing the bosy weight
