Question
I need a feedback for this comment:
(1. Since I have started to try to become healthier, I am realizing that the media portray many foods as healthy. When in actuality, looking at the contents of calories, carbohydrates, etc. it tends to not be as healthy of a choice as it is perceived. The media influences people to eat food they advertise by saying that it is healthy and showing a fit person eating it. This way of advertising influences people to think that eating the food advertised will make them healthier. What the media does not show is that eating the food in moderation and exercising is what will really make someone healthier. 2. I believe that media and corporations are the biggest influence for food and body image. There are advertisements for everything everywhere. A person sees 100 media and corporation influences a day. In regards to myself, my family is the most influential. I see influences just like everyone else but they do not impact me like my family does. I see people in my family try to eat healthier and exercise. I also see people in my family who are not happy with their body and are not as happy as they could be. Both sides of my family that I see influence me more than media and corporations.)
Explanation / Answer
1. The role of media in popularizing food choices cannot be understated. As apted stated the media is a tool for propaganding and marketing which many business houses use to reach the end person who is a customer. Certainly we find fewer advertisements in the media for right eating and exercising habits than we should actually be seeing. It is definitely biased as per media advertisements as the food market is governed by business establishments which want an increase in their profits.
2.Individual personal choices are best kept limited to an individual. What holds good for someone may not be the best for everyone else. People who are susceptible to influences generated by social media and body image types generally have a lower self esteem than others generally do. This advertising will influence their choices. However family support is one of the best tools used in supportive healthcare. Utilizing this option to help influence good habits is worthwhile especially in home self management.
