1. The Role of informatics in the Clinical setting:
The nursing profession is a growing field. As because of improved technology, the nurses play a role in informatics. Today, the healthcare system of all organization is using of Electronic medical record and the informatics nurse is responsible for patient safety and improvement of the quality of patient care.
Improved Documentation: documentation is an important part of the Nursing profession. The Informatics nurse helps in documenting, collecting, sharing of patient information electronically, so the nurses are able to provide effective care and to improve the quality of care in the patient.
Reducing Medical Errors: The Informatics nurse helps the nurse for safe practices and to prevent errors. Health informatics makes alert of medications that lead to interaction or allergies to the patient. This makes prevention of errors and misdiagnosis and improves patient safety and quality of care.
Reduced Costs: The role of informatics reduces the cost of an organization by preventing errors, reducing repetition of tests and improves the productivity.
Coordination of Care: The informatics improves the coordination of care by sharing of information properly among the physicians, nurses, pharmacists, therapists, and billing. It helps for effective care of the patient in time.
2. The informatics has to face a number of challenges in Human factors and ergonomics (HFE) approaches. The informatics nurse has to understand the barriers and facilitators in the information system. The Human factors influence the health and well-being of the patient. On the other hand, the physiological and psychological aspect of human factors makes the error in patient safety. Due to the complexity of health system, the informatics contributes to knowledge gain through education and research and improves the work environment.
