Question

You are given 3 resistors. one has a resistance of 1 ohms. Another has a resistance of 2 ohms. The third has a resistance of 3 ohms. Your job is to design different networks of resistors using these three resistors. Each network must contain all three resistors, it must be possible for current to flow through all three resistors and you can only use these three resistors ( one resistor for each resistance).

a/ How many different resistances can you create using all three resistors?

b/ Sketch a network with a resistance of 2.2 ohms

Explanation / Answer

inseries

R1 = 1+2+3 = 6

1&2 are inseires and is paraallel to 3

R2 = (3*3)/(3+3) = 1.5

1&3 are inseires and is parallel to 2

R3 = (4*2)/(4+2) = 1.33

2&3 are inseires and is parallel to 1

R4 = (5*1)/(5+1) = 0.83

1 , 2 ,3 are in parallel

R5 = 0.545

1&2 are in parallel and is series to 3

R6 = 2/3 + 3 = 3.67

1&3 are inparallel and is series to 2

R7 = (3/4)+2 = 2.75

2&3 are inparallel and is series to 1

R7 = (6/5)+1 = 2.2

a)   8 resistances

b) 2 ohms & 3 ohms are in parallel . and combination of 2 & 3 is in series with 1 ohms
