Question
Suppose the voltage across each battery is 41 V, and the resistance of each resistor is 20.6 ?.
Find the current I2 (through R2).
Suppose now that we start with the original circuit, but this time we add another branch identical to AF and CD, containing a resistor R = 20.6 ? and a battery V = 41 V, arranged with negative terminal toward the top. Find the new current I2 (through R2).
Find the new current I2 (through R2).Explanation / Answer
Here , let the current in R2 is i2 ,
Now , due to symmetry ,current in R1 and R3 will
i1 = i3 = i2/2
, Using KVL
41 - i1*R1 - i2*R2 = 0
41 - 20.6 * i2/2 - 20.6 i2 = 0
i2 = 1.33 A
the current in the resistor R2 is 1.33 A
and Now , adding one for branch ,
the current in R1 will be i1 = i2/3
Using KVL againn,
41 - 20.6 i1 - 20.6 i2 = 0
41 - 20.6 *i2/3 - 20.6 i2 =0
solving for i2
i2 = 1.49 A
the current after adding one more branch is 1.49 A
