Question
The singly charged positive ion is replaced with a singly charged positive ion that has five times the mass i.e., 5m(kg) and velocity v(m/s). If the radius of the path of the ion in 6b is R(m), the radius of the path of this new ion in the magnetic field will be _______________. Give your answer in terms of R in the form "R(m)/n" or "nxR" where n is a factor dividing R(m) or multiplying R(m). For example, if your answer is 9 times smaller than R(m) then you would input R(m)/9. If your answer is 9 times larger then you would input 9R(m).
Explanation / Answer
here ,
the radius of path of a mass m having charge q with velocity v in magnetic field B is given as
r = mv/B*q
Now,
R(m) = m*v/(B*q)
Now , for larger mass
R(M) = 5mv/(B*q)
R(M) = 5*R(m)
NOw , the new radius of the trajectory is 5*R(m)
