Question
Starting from rest, a 4.80-kg block slides 2.50 m down a rough 30.0 degree incline. The coefficient of kinetic friction between the block and the incline is Muk = 0.436. (a) Determine the work done by the force of gravity. Your response differs from the correct answer by more than 10%. Double check your calculations. (b) Determine the work done by the friction force between block and incline. (c) Determine the work done by the normal force. (d) Qualitatively, how would the answers change if a shorter ramp at a steeper angle were used to span the same vertical height?Explanation / Answer
a)
here , work done by gravity = mgh
work done by gravity = 4.8 * 9.8 * 2.5 * sin(30)
work done by gravity = 58.8 J
b)
work done by friciton = frcition * distance
work done by friciton = -u*mg* cos(30) * d
work done by friciton = -4.8 * 9.8 * cos(30) * 2.50
work done by friciton = -101.8 J
the work done by friciton is -101.8 J
c)
the work done by normal force is zero
as it is perdicular to dircetion of motion
d)
For same vertical distance , and steerper angle ,
work done by gravity will stay the same
and work done by friction will decreses
