Question

While on a business trip in Asia, your brother enjoyed many culinary delicacies. He particularly enjoyed the shellfish that were obtained so cheaply from the market vendors that steamed them while you watched. Unfortunately, your brother also suffered the consequences of his ‘penny-pinching’ and soon after partaking of the shellfish, he was stuck with severe nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhea. In fact, his diarrhea was so copious that it quickly became watery clear with white flecks resembling rice grains. He went to see a doctor recommended by his company and the doctor placed him on doxycycline to restrict the severity and duration of his symptoms and began him on a strict regimen to replace the fluids and electrolytes he had lost.
