Theory : An oscillatory motion is called SHM if and only if the restoring force is directly proportional to the instantaneous displacement of the body. in mathematical terms: F = -kx

F = Force

k = constant of proportionality

x = displacement

1) When the ball is being dropped, the force on the ball is given as: F = Mg = weight which is constant. This doesn't follow the equation: F = -kx. Thus it's not an SHM.

2) Average height of a BB player = 2.2 m. Consider chest height to be 1.8 m. Time taken by ball to hit the ground = t = sqrt(2*H/g) = 0.606 s. However an oscillation is complete when the ball returns back. So, TIME PERIOD = 1.212 seconds.

3) On solving the equation of SHM, you get expression of Time period as: T = 2*pi/omega which is independent of amplitude. Thus the condition of SHM is : THE PERIOD IS INDEPENDENT OF AMPLITUDE.
