Question

Hello,
This is the question I do not understand below.....I am notsure where to start but I think that I got this far Fc =(2Mo)^2/R^2 * G.....I am so confused, can you please helpme? The distance between the centers of two binary stars isR. Star 1 has a mass Mo and star 2 has a mass2Mo. In terms of R, how far from the center of star1 is the point where the two gravitational forces willcancel? (An object there would not experience anygravitational force due to the gravitational pull of thestars.)

Explanation / Answer

GMo/x2 = G(2Mo)/(R -x)2 1/x2 = 2/(R - x)2 2x2 = (R - x)22 x = R - x x = R/(1 + 2)
