Question

Given the circuit at the right in which the following values are used: R1 = 20 k?, R2 = 12 k?, C = 10 ?F, and ? = 25 V. You close the switch at t = 0. Find (a) the current in R1 and R2 at t=0, (b) the voltage across R1 after a long time. (Careful with this one.) Answer: A. I1 = 1.25 mA, I2 = 0   B. 15.6V

Explanation / Answer

a. currernt i = V/R

i1 = 25/20000 = 1.25 mA

i2 = 0 A ( as only R1 fucntions here)
---------------------------------------

V = Vo (1-e^-t/Rc)

Rnet = R1+R2 = 20+12 = 32 k ohms

so V = 25 *( 1-e^-1)

V = 25(1-0.367)

V = 15.8 V
