In order to be an effective counselor or helper,being genuine and non judgmental is very important and if you are not then the options available are to accept people the way they are,it means to recognize that the other person has as much integrity and right to be alive as any other human being. It just means to acknowledge and tolerate the differences,and uncertainity,that you can accept that what is an acceptable choice for one person may not be good for another one. It also means that you are sensitive to multicultural views of different individuals. Responsive listening is another option. it can help to send across a message to the person that they are worthy enough. As a counseler,you can aid the clients in learning to acknowledge and evaluate their own values. By sharing your opinions or knowledge selflessly,you can help the person by providing alternatives that they can consider. Rather than imposing your views on people,its important to share it with them and ackowledge their views as well. Then only it would lead to a healthy relationship between counselor and client.
