Are there aspects of the theory that might help you explain your own strengths and weaknesses? 2. Based on your understanding of humanistic theories, how would you try to change your behavior to better meet the underlying motivations of security, acceptance, and self- realization? 3. Consider your own self-concept discrepancies. Do you have an actual-ideal or actual- ought discrepancy? Which one is more important for you, and why?

Explanation / Answer

1. Psychodynamic theories of Personality

I am in my adulthood and have very little of id personality now. Except for the basic survival needs, my personality mainly stagnates in the ego personality and I work considering the situation. Sometimes, these are backed by my moral values, which is super ego personality. My desires are totally based on the situation. Say for example, I like wandering places with a carefree life but my ego personality has made me stick to my schedule and liking it eventually. As a middle born child, I also carry a sense of superiority over my siblings and I am successful too comparitively.Due to my troubled childhood, I eventually developed trust issues mainly towards men. I need acknowledgement for my activities and require consistent support. I have entered my adulthood and I am still dealing with these issues.

Strengths - Alfred's theory explains my urge to be successful than my siblings. Fred's ego personality explains my responsible attitude towards life and family.

Weakness - I have to deal with lots of emotional issues internally and Erikson's theory clearly explains the linkage between the issues with my troubled childhood.

2. Humanistic theory of motivation

For me, acceptance by my loved ones is vital above security. I consistently try to improve my good behaviour so that I am constantly accepted and loved.I try to be very nice, kind and adjusting of people's behaviour and quick forgiving too. For self realization, I try to showcase my skills, knowledge and expertise wherever possible to expand my opportunities and get a sense of fulfillment.

3. Self concept discrepancies

Yes, I have actual - ideal and actual - ought discrepancy.

Actual- ought discrepancy: My family want me to confidently deal with my problems and be in a superior position in the society which I am not currently.

Actual- Ideal discrepancy : For me, being loved very much and having a smooth and successful life is the ideal self, which only matches a little with my actual self.

Both the discrepancies are similar to an extent, and since I do not belong to the id personality I cannot totally prioritize actual-Ideal discrepancy and my ego personality makes me look into the actual-ought discrepancy to an extent. Lucky in a way that both are kind of similar, I strive to minimise the gap between my actual, ideal and ought self and cannot totally prioritize one. In some situations, one self concept is superior over the other and this works other way round too.
