Question
A 1000-kg sports car (including the driver) crosses the rounded top of a hill (radius = 90.0m ) at 22.0m/s .
Part A
Determine the normal force exerted by the road on the car.
Express your answer to three significant figures and include the appropriate units.
FNcar =
(I have tried: 2964.8N and 3.0?10^3N both were counted wrong)
Part B
Determine the normal force exerted by the car on the 73.0-kg driver.
Express your answer to three significant figures and include the appropriate units.
FNdriver =
(I tried 157N for driver and it was wrong)
Part C
Determine the car speed at which the normal force on the driver equals zero.
Express your answer to three significant figures and include the appropriate units.
Please help! I'm stuck!
FNcar =
(I have tried: 2964.8N and 3.0?10^3N both were counted wrong)
Explanation / Answer
so we know a = v^2/r and points down
so mg - N = mv^2/r
N = mg - mv^2/r = 1000*(9.81 - 22^2/90)= 4430 N
b) N = 73*(9.81 - 22^2/90) = 324 N
c) this is when N = 0
g = v^2/r
v = sqrt( g r) = sqrt(9.81*90)= 29.7 m/s
