Question
Roach has just robbed the bank, but he doesn't want to get caught with the loot on him. He arranged it with his friend, Bubba, that just when he crosses the bridge going over Blue River and River Rd. below, Bubba will be on River Rd. traveling West. (See Fig. -2.) Roach is trading north on Bridge St. going 20.0 m/s and Bubba is traveling west Riser Rd. at 25.0 m/s. At the instant that Roach enters the bridge, Bubba is 120.0 m east of him, and 90.0 m north of him. The bridge is 50.0 in above Riser Rd. At the perfect moment, Roach throws the bag of loot to Bubba in a direction that is purely horizontal with respect to the ground, and due cast of Roach. a. Find yR, the distance north from the entrance to the bridge at which Roach should throw the bag of loot to Bubba, if Bubba is to make a perfect catch. b. Find the horizontal velocity in the easterly direction with which Roach should throw the bag of loot to Bubba, if Bubba is to make a perfect catch.Explanation / Answer
Time of flight = time taken to fall down by 50 m = sqrt(2H/g) = 3.19 s.
Initially Bubba was 120 m away. After 3.19 s, he will be XB away. XB = 120 - 3.19*25 = 40.14 m
Speed of loot =VR = 40.14/3.19 = 12.58 m/s -------------Answer to part (b)
YR = 90 - 3.19*20 = 26.2 m ----------------------Answer to part (a)
