Question

Solve the problem first using the variables given and then the numerical quantities. A rock is thrown up with an initial speed of v0 = 26 m/s. The object hits the ground tp = 7.5 seconds later.

A. How much higher or lower is the launch point relative to the point where the rock hits the ground.

Find the maximum height reached by the rock (relative to its bottom most point in the trajectory)

What is the velocity when it hits the ground?

D. Draw the acceleration-vs time, velocity vs time position vs. time graphs.

Explanation / Answer

use the kinematics equations for horixzontal motion as S = vx * t

from verttical motion, Y = yo + ut - 0.5 gt^2

- h = 0 + (26* 7.5) - (0.5* 9.8 * 7.5* 7.5)

-h = -80.62 m

so height H = 80.62 m

--------------------------

Hmax = v^2/2g

Hmax = (26*26)/(2*9.8)

Hamx = 34.89 m

----------------------------------------

c. V = u -gt

V = 26- (9.8* 7.5)

V = -47.5 m/s
