Question

Air is going through a nozzle to increase the velocity of the gas. The process can be considered adiabatic. The air entering the nozzle is at 400 C and 0.5 MPa, the air exiting the nozzle is at 350 C and 0.1 MPa. Using an open system energy balance, estimate the exiting velocity of the gas. The inlet velocity is assumed to be zero. Assume it is an ideal gas, with a Cp of 7/2 R. Remember the enthalpy change of an ideal gas is just a function of Cp and T. The units will be the tough part. Just work out, know what J’s are, know what a Newton is and it should work out.
