Air is going through a nozzle to increase the velocity of the gas. The process can be considered adiabatic. The air entering the nozzle is at 400 degree C and 0.5 MPa, the air exiting the nozzle is at 350 degree C and 0.1 MPa. Using an open system energy balance, estimate the exiting velocity of the gas. The inlet velocity is assumed to be zero. Assume it is an ideal gas, with a Cp of 7/2 R. Remember the enthalpy change of an ideal gas is just a function of Cp and Delta T. The units will be the tough part. Just work out, know what J's are, know what a Newton is and it should work out. Calculate the amount of heat needed to increase the temperature of carbon dioxide from 25 degree C to 500 degree C, using the following methods. You can assume the pressure is at 1 atm. Use the integral form of the enthalpy equation and the constants in the back of the book for Cp. Calculate it using a constant heat capacity for CO2 at 25 degree C Calculate it using a constant heat capacity for CO2 at 500 degree C Calculate it using a constant heat capacity for CO2 at the average temperature.
