Question

The 8-lb block A is at rest on the inclined plane while being attached to the 20-lb block B. If the coefficient of kinetic friction between the block A and the inclined plane is mk=0.2, determine the acceleration of each block when the system is released. Neglect the mass of the pulleys and cord. Also find the velocities of A and B after A has moved 2 ft. A 60001b aircraft is launched from a catapult (k=200 Ib/in). The spring is compressed 5 ft., then released together with a constant thrust of 2000 lb. during launch. Assuming horizontal forces, find v at the time when spring force is zero.

Explanation / Answer

As per Guidelines, I answer one question, please post other questions separately.

the final kinetic energy is equal to potential energy stored in the spring and compressed work

mv*v/2 = kx2/2 + F*x

6000*0.4535*v^2/9.8*2 = 200*0.4535*1.52*1.52/2*0.0254 + 2000*0.4535*1.52

rewrite the equation for v^2

v^2 =39.64

take square root

v =6.29 m/s
