Question

Two coils are wound around the same cylindrical form, as shown in the figure (Figure 11. When the current in the first (black) coil is decreasing at a rate of 0.244 A/s , the induced emf in the second (blue) coil has magnitude 1.68 mV. Part A What is the mutual inductance of the pair of coils? Part B If the second coil has 30.0 turns, what is the average magnetic flux through each turn when the current in the first coil equals 1.24 A ? PartC If the current in the second coil increases at a rate of 0.380 A/s, what is the magnitude of the induced emf in the first coil?

Explanation / Answer

1. Mutual inductance of coil , M is given by -
E = M(delta I/ delta t)
M = E/ (delta I/ delta t) = 1.68 mV/0.244 A/s
M = 6.89 mH

2.
M = (N(2) I@(B2))/I(1)
I@(B2) = (M I(1))/N(2)
= (6.89*10^-3*1.24A)/30.0
= 2.85*10^-4 wb

3.
E = M(delta I/ delta t)
E = 6.89*10^-3 *0.380A/s
E = 2.62 mV
