What is the speed of the liquid in the second and third segments of pipe? What is the volume flow rate through the pipe?Explanation / Answer
here,
initial speed , u1 = 4 m/s
initial diameter , d1 = 1 cm
radius ,r1 = 0.005 m
seccond diameter , d2 = 2 cm
seccond radius , r2 = 0.01 m
third diameter , d3 = 5 mm
third radius , r3 = 0.0025 m
let the speed at seccond and third segment of pipe be v2 and v3
using equation of continuity
Area1 * velocity 1 = aArea 2 * volume 2
pi * r1^2 * u1 = pi * r2^2 *v2
0.005^2 * 4 = 0.01^2 * v2
v2 = 1 m/s
using equation of continuity
Area1 * velocity 1 = Area 3 * volume 3
pi * r1^2 * u1 = pi * r3^2 *v3
0.005^2 * 4 = 0.0025^2 * v3
v3 = 16 m/s
the speed in third segment is 16 m/s and seccond segment is 1 m/s
the volume flow rate of the pipe , V = area1 * velocity1
V = 1 * 10^-4 m^3/s
the volume flow rate is 1 * 10^-4 m^3/s
