Question
This question requires knowledge of logs - and I cannot remember how to do those problems- let alone use my calculator for them.
Any help on your method to figuring this out, step by step would help.
Map The vapor pressure, P, of a certain liquid was measured at two temperatures, T. It you were going to graphically determine the enthalpy of vaporizaton, Hap, for this liquid, what points would you plot? The data is shown in this table .V Number Number T (K) P (kPa) 275 6256.01 To avoid rounding errors, use three significant figures in the x values and four significant figures in the y values point 1 3.18 Number Number NOTE: Keep the pressure units in kPa point 2 Tools Determine the rise, run, and slope of the line formed by these points x 102 rise run slope Number Number Number at is the enthalpy of vaporization of this liquid? Number J/ mol VapExplanation / Answer
We need to plot lnK on y axis and 1/T on x axis
P = 3.18
ln P = ln (3.18) = 1.15688
T = 275.0
1/T = 0.00364
point 1 is:
x = 0.00364
y = 1.15688
P = 6.01
ln P = ln (6.01) = 1.79342
T = 625.0
1/T = 0.0016
point 2 is:
x = 0.0016
y = 1.79342
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
rise = (y1-y2) = 1.15688 - 1.79342 = -0.63654
rise = (X1-X2) = 0.00364 - 0.0016 = 0.00204
slope = rise/run
= -0.63654/0.00204
= -312.58835
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
use
slope = - H/R
= -312.58835 = -H/8.314
H = 2599 J/mol
