Question

When working the problems below here are a few suggestions:
First determine if there is any flux.
Second determine if the flux is changing with time. If not there will be no induced ??mf. The induced ??mf or current will always be in a direction that will oppose the changing flux.

1. In this drawing, current I is flowing as shown and is increasing with time. Deduce the direction of the induced current in the loop.

a) Draw the direction of the magnetic field produced by the straight wire in the area of the wire loop and label it.

b) Is there any flux within the wire loop? Yes No

c) Is the flux within the loop increasing, decreasing, or staying the same? ________

d) What is the direction of the induced current in the wire loop? CW CCW

e) Explain your choice in d) above.

Explanation / Answer

a) in the area of the wire loop magnetic filed direction is perpendiculary in to the page.

b) Yes

c) increasing

d) CCw

e) As the current in the staright wire increases the magnetic through the loop increases.

so, emf is induced and induced current flows in the ckt. This current opposes the change in flux through the loop.

so, The induced current produces magnetic filed out of the page.

so, to produce magnetic filed out of the page direction the induced current should be CCW
