Question
Referring to Figure C, we have two long straight wires. One carries a current (8 amps) in the positive x direction and the other a current (5 amps) in the positive y direction. At the point (-3m, 4m) indicated, calculate the magnitude and direction of the magnetic field.
Referring to figure D, we have two long striaght wires carrying currents 10 amps into the page and 20 amps out of the page. The wires are seperated by 4 meters. There is a point indicated 3 meters to the left of the 10 amp wire. If a third wire (1 amp out of the page) is placed at this point, calculate the magnitude and direction of the force per meter on this wire exerted by the two given wires.
The other answer on chegg may be wrong. This is my second time posting the same question. Please show work to justify the answer. Thank you very much.
Explanation / Answer
Here , for question C ,
the magnetic field due to a current carrying wire is given as
B = u0*I/(2*pi*d)
Now ,
at point (-3 , 4) m , the magnetic field due to both the wires is in same direction
Bnet = B1 + B2
Bnet = u0*(5/(2*pi*3) + 8 /(2*pi*4))
Bnet = 7.33 *10^-7 T
the net field at point is 7.33 *10^-7 T , it is OUT OF THE PAGE
