Question

Part A Calculate the terminal voltage for a battery with an internal resistance of 0.700 Omega and an emf of 9.00 V when the battery is connected in series with a 98.0- OMega resistor. Express your answer to three significant figures and include the appropriate units. Vab 8.94V Part B Calculate the terminal voltage for a battery with an internal resistance of 0.700 Omega and an emf of 9.00 V when the battery is connected in series with an 980- Omega resistor. Express your answer to three significant figures and include the appropriate units.

Explanation / Answer

B)

net resistance of the ckt, Rnet = r + R (here r is inerna resistance)

= 0.7 + 980

= 980.7 ohms

I = emf/Rnet

= 9/980.7

= 0.009177 A

so, terminal volatge, Vab = emf - I*r

= 9 - 0.009177*0.7

= 8.994 volts
