Question

What is the energy of a microwave photon with a wavelength of 4.07 cm? Planck’s constant is 6.63 × 1034 J · s, and the speed of light is 3 × 108 m/s. Answer in units of eV.

(part 2 of 3) 10.0 points What is the energy of a visible photon with a wavelength of 407 nm? Answer in units of eV.

(part 3 of 3) 10.0 points What is the energy of an X-ray photon with a wavelength of 4.07 nm? Answer in units of eV.

I know the answer to part one is 3.046E-5, but I can't figure out how to do parts two and three, can some one please help!

Explanation / Answer

E=h*c/lambda, where h is the Planck's Constant, C is the speed of the light and lambda is the wavelenght

Part 1) E=6.63x10-34*3x108/4.07x10-2=4.89x10-24 J *6.24x1018=3.049x10-5 eV

Part 2) E=6.63x10-34*3x108/407x10-9=4.89x10-19 J *6.24x1018=3.049 eV

Part 3) E=6.63x10-34*3x108/4.07x10-9=4.89x10-17 J *6.24x1018=304.9 eV
