Question
A terminal button from Neuron X forms a synapse with a dendrite of Neuron Y. The synaptic junction occurs in the mesolimbic pathway.
First, describe the process of communication between these cells under normal conditions.
Next, describe how the presence of amphetamine will alter the normal communication.
Remember to BE SPECIFIC and include all necessary details and appropriate terminology. (For example: what NT is most likely to be released from Neuron X? Does amphetamine act as an agonist or an antagonist?)
Explanation / Answer
neurotransmitters are what is released into our synapses and this is what makes us happy or not happy enough haha on a broad/general level. amphetamines can cause a certain neurotransmitter to stay in the synapse too long and not get taken back by the neuron receptors (this is reuptake) therefor causing you to make more of this specific neurotransmitter and now you have way too much and thats why you get all crazy basically when you are on drugs haha and some have the opposite result
