Independent variable is the variable that changes according to the need of the experiment. It means we can change such variable without any hesitation. Dependent variables are those which are dependent upon other variables.

In the question, we can see that Numbers of Parasites are in two conditions Presence, and absence and both are participated equally. It means the tester was changing number of parasites by own. These are independent to change.

The other two Simploids and sick counting are dependent variables because they are changing according to the independent variable.
