Question
Two friends are playing a version of proton golf where the hole is marked by a single proton. The first friend reads his meter, and declares he has a field strength of 24.5 N/C. The second friend looks at her meter and realizes she is three times as far away. What field strength does the second friend's meter read? Two friends are playing a version of proton golf where the hole is marked by a single proton. The first friend reads his meter, and declares he has a field strength of 24.5 N/C. The second friend looks at her meter and realizes she is three times as far away. What field strength does the second friend's meter read?Explanation / Answer
We know that the electric field = Kq/r2 where K is the Constant, q is the charge and r is the distance.
So the field strength at a distance of r is E= 24.5 N/C
and the second friend is three times away that the distance is 3r
so the electric field will be E2 = Kq/(3r)2 = E/9
E2 = 24.5/9 = 2.722 N/C
