Question
There is a parallel plate capacitor with circular plates. If the diameter of each plate is doubled, while at the same time the distance between the plates is halved, what will happen to the capacitance of the capacitor? There is a parallel plate capacitor with circular plates. There is a parallel plate capacitor with circular plates. If the diameter of each plate is doubled, while at the same time the distance between the plates is halved, what will happen to the capacitance of the capacitor?Explanation / Answer
here,
let the initial radius of plates be r and the distance between the plates be d
rtghe capacitance , C = area * epsilon/d
C = epsilon * pi * r^2/d ...(1)
the final radius , r' = 2 * r
the final distance between the plates , d' = d/2
then the capacitance , C' = area * epsilon/d'
C' = epsilon * pi * (2*r)^2 / (d/2) ...(2)
from equation (1 ) and (2)
C' = 8 *C
the capacitance of the capacitor becomes 8 times the initial capacitance
