Question
Need help on part B 2) A certain sprinter has a top speed of 11.0 m/s. If the sprinter starts from rest and accelerates at a constant rate. he s able to reach his top speed in a distance of 12.0 m. He Is then able to maintain this top speed for the remainder of a 100 m race. a) What is his time for the 100 m race? b) In order to improve his time, the sprinter tries to decrease the distance required for him to reach his top speed. What must this distance be if he is to achieve a time of 10.0 s for the race?Explanation / Answer
here
the average velocity = 0.5 ( u + v) = 5.5 m/s
t = distance / spedd = 12 /5.5 = 2.18 sec
he ran the remaining 88 m at a speed of 11 m/s, or in a time of 8 sec
his total time for the race is 8 + 2.18 = 10.18 sec
b)
then for 10 sec in the remainder of the race
5.5 * t + 11* ( 10 - t) = 100
5.5 * t + 110 - 11t = 100
5.5 * t = 10
t = 10 / 5.5 = 1.82 sec
